A brief description of the department:
The Department of Modern and Classical Language Studies at Kent State University is a combined language department with graduate programs in Literature and Culture, Language Pedagogy, and Translation. We offer the MA in Latin Literature and Latin Pedagogy.

Particular strengths or unique areas of interest for the department: Teacher training; Latin Poetry and Prose; Roman material culture; Ancient Mediterranean Religions

Application deadline: We recommend the previous February 1 before the Fall semester in which a student wishes to enroll.
Unusual features of the application: No.
GRE scores required: No, but highly recommended.
Writing sample required: Yes, we require a writing sample; either one long paper or several short ones.

For “best consideration for admission”, applicants should have (note that there are always special cases, and that meeting the stated numerical goals will not guarantee admission to any program):
GRE: minimum of verbal 500, quant 500, written portion 5. GPA: 3.5 average in Classics courses. Equivalent of major in Latin or Classics. We generally ask for a list of Latin authors and titles read in undergraduate courses.

Approximate percentage of incoming students given full funding: Currently, no students receive full funding because of budget constraints, but we attempt to secure funding for qualified students on an ad hoc basis.
