A brief description of the department:
The newest Latin M.A. in the country considers itself a “Finishing Touch” Masters. Marshall Classics is well suited to students who have come to the study of Classics late and would like the opportunity to do deep, graduate level work in Latin and achieve proficiency in Greek.

Particular strengths or unique areas of interest for the department: Latin Literature, Gender, Ethnicity, Late Roman Republic & Early Empire, Feminism

For “best consideration for admission”, applicants should have (note that there are always special cases, and that meeting the stated numerical goals will not guarantee admission to any program):
Although the GRE is required, and a high GPA in Classical language and culture courses is preferred, we look at the total package of our applicants. We prefer two years of Latin and two of Greek.

Approximate percentage of incoming students given full funding: Every student has the opportunity to receive tuition and a small stipend. See below.
Number of guaranteed years of funding: Full time students have the opportunity to receive funding for two years, which is the suggested time for the completion of the M.A.
Out of those years, number student will be expected or required to serve as TA, RA, or the like: Our department has no dedicated TA lines. Nevertheless we have opportunities for TAships in other programs at the university that provide tuition and a small stipend.

PhDs and MAs awarded since January 2004: The program was created in 2006 and we have produced one graduate since then.

Major changes anticipated in the department over the next few years, if any:
