A brief description of the department:
The Department of Classics offers a terminal Masters degree. Our eight full-time faculty members offer advanced coursework in key aspects of the ancient civilizations of Greece and Rome (Greek, Latin, art, archaeology). Most students enrolled intend to pursue a Ph.D. in Classics or a related field at another institution.

Particular strengths or unique areas of interest for the department: Gender; material and textual cultures.

Application deadline: Rolling deadline; applicants wishing to be considered for University Fellowships must apply in early January.
Unusual features of the application: No
GRE scores required: GRE scores are recommended for admission, but required if applicant wishes to be considered for University Fellowships.
Writing sample required: A writing sample of 10-20 pages is encouraged.

For “best consideration for admission”, applicants should have (note that there are always special cases, and that meeting the stated numerical goals will not guarantee admission to any program):
Fifteen junior/senior hours of Latin (=beyond three semesters) and Greek (=beyond first year).

Approximate percentage of applicants this represents: 30%
Number of new students entering program this fall: Five.

Approximate percentage of incoming students given full funding: 100%
Number of guaranteed years of funding: As long as students are making good progress through the program.
Out of those years, number student will be expected or required to serve as TA, RA, or the like: No requirement.
International students eligibility for financial aid: Yes.

PhDs and MAs awarded since January 2005: Ten.
