A brief description of the department:
The University of Oregon Classics Department has four full time faculty members, an instructor and three affiliated faculty members in History, Art History and English. Our faculty specializes in Greek poetry and Greek philosophy, Latin historiography and Latin poetry. We offer an M.A. only. Our M.A. program aims at improving the students' language and cultural knowledge and introducing special research methods. We also have train students specifically in Latin and have had good success in placing them in high school teaching positions.

Average number of new graduate students per year: 2-3 admitted at the M.A. level only
Approximate percentage of applicants this represents: 2 of 12 admitted last year

For “best consideration for admission”, applicants should have (note that there are always special cases, and that meeting the stated numerical goals will not guarantee admission to any program):
over 600 in verbal

Approximate percentage of incoming students given full funding: 100% of students presently get tuition wavers, health insurance and a stipend which cover about 50% of local living expenses.
Number of guaranteed years of funding: We have no guarantees, but presently we try to support for two years.
Out of those years, number student will be expected or required to serve as TA, RA, or the like: All our funding is by this means
